About Ngorongoro Crater

The crater floor sits 600 m below the rim and is entered on a strict six-hour permit, so we descend at the 06:00 gate opening for the best light and predator activity. Ngorongoro is a Conservation Area rather than a national park, meaning Maasai communities graze cattle alongside wildlife — a rare working example of coexistence. Accommodation options run from Karatu lodges on the rim road to luxury rim-edge lodges with crater views.
