Natron is highly alkaline (pH up to 10.5) and can reach 60 °C — which is exactly why it is a predator-free flamingo nursery. The drive in from Mto wa Mbu along the Rift wall is spectacular. Best done as an overnight to avoid a punishing single-day drive.
